Knights of Columbus donate coats for WellFully kids

Winter and its accompanying cold weather will soon be upon us, and thanks again to the members of Rapid City's Knights of Columbus Council 8844, the kids of WellFully will stay warm as they venture out to school and activities.

For many of the youth that find themselves in one of WellFully's programs, as the season turns toward the winter months, they often show up with little more than the clothes on their backs - much less a coat of any kind.

Pictured are Knight of Columbus members Chris Acunia and Tom Derkin presenting over 40 coats to WellFully's Felicia Swallow, Ramey Irwin and Nicole Benso. In the upcoming week, each WellFully youth will be able to select a coat that they can call their own.

A request from the Knights of Columbus is that each child be urged to write their name on their coat. James Schaefers, Trustee for Council 884 commented on how much pride the kids get in having a coat with their name on it, that makes it something that is truly theirs.

Each year, it is through the organization's annual coat drive and pancake breakfasts and other fundraisers that the Knights of Columbus are able to provide warm coats to area children through such youth oriented organizations as WellFully and YFS.
